They're meant to bring joy and happiness to those around them, but sometimes clowns are no laughing matter. Since the early 80's, sightings of creepy clowns have phased in and out periodically across the globe. Coulrophobics beware as we move into spine-tingling territory with the 10 creepiest clown sightings.
Clown's Hate Pumpkins
An oversized clown is bad enough, but an oversized clown that can tear apart a pumpkin with his bare hands is borderline terrifying. To make matters worse, this towering children's party reject chose the front porch of an innocent Springfield, Florida family to show off his strengths. Then again, there's always the possibility that the pumpkin was fake or rigged to be easily smashed. Regardless, it's a giant creepy clown stomping around somebody's private property in the middle of the night.
The Springfield Clown
There are few things more frightening than watching last night's CCTV footage of your front yard only to find that you had an unwanted visitor. That is, of course, unless that unwanted visitor came equipped with a polka dotted costume, poofy red hair, oversized shoes, and did nothing but stand at the edge of your stoop and stare up into your camera. In October of 2014, during the last "clown sighting mania," a Springfield, Florida resident woke up to such a scenario. Something tells us that front gate has been padlocked ever since.
On October 2nd, 2016, Twitter user @Henckel was driving within Clinton township in Michigan with a few friends when he caught wind of something incredibly unusual. Standing within the lit opening of the car wash was the menacing shadow of a clown. Though the figure politely waved for the camera, the tweet associated with the video claimed the creeper tried to follow the car. Henckel, otherwise known as Chris outside of Twitter, and friends were able to escape their big-footed pursuer, but something tells us this wasn't the last time the clownish creep would be seen.
Brooklyn Cemetery Clown
There's something creepy about a clown prancing around outside of its typical environment of a haunted attraction or a circus. There's something even more unsettling about a clown, sporting pink balloons, wandering aimlessly through a cemetery. Though the tail end of the video may lead you to question how real it was, there's no denying just how creepy it was to watch a clown prance around the already eerie Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
The Bridge Clown
Chase Prior and fellow jogger Patrick Williams were enjoying a brisk jog in Newmark, Ohio on October 3rd, 2016 when they came across a lengthy bridge with a very unique bridge troll. Rather than requiring a few questions before allowing travelers to pass, however, the clown guarding this bridge requires more of a blood offering. While the validity of the video has come into question often, it still leaves us uncomfortable to think of rogue clowns meandering the woods with their own special toys in hand.
Clowns are the go-to form of entertainment for suburban children's parties, but something tells us this overall-wearing, orange-haired freak isn't on the way to his next gig. With balloons in hand, this creepy clown was among the first spotted in the town of Fishers, Indiana during the 2014 "clown outbreak." Unlike some of the other clowns spotted throughout the United States, however, this clown was more than willing to cooperate with authorities. When questioned by local police, the man behind the mask stated he was simply celebrating his favorite time of year - Halloween.
There's a good chance this was set up by the homeowner, but in the off chance it wasn't, give me one moment to lock my door… It seems clowns are not bashful, definitely have no concept of personal space, and aren't really aware as to how jumpy and gun-happy the world is today. On the other hand, you have to appreciate an individual that's willing to go the extra mile to make sure they get the most use out of their light-up face.
You're driving along a lonely road and come across this little arrangement in the middle of said road. Do you trust the detour and hope it's not a ploy or do you take your chances and try the closed road? Knowing how sinister clowns can be, chances are both options lead to disaster, but at least you'll momentarily get away from this terrifying sight before your inevitable run in with a band of rogue former circus entertainers.
The small community of Agawam, Massachusetts was one of many towns touched by the 2016 onslaught of creepy clowns. Standing right outside of a strip mall on a plain stretch of wall, this balloon-wielding clown simply wants to offer free hugs to passersby. When he gets closer to the camera, however, his demeanor and deformed mask are a lot less inviting than his happy sign and colorful balloons let on.
The Wasco Clown
As reports of creepy clowns sweep across the United States, we're reminded of an eerie masked fiend that was spotted around the communities of Wasco, Bakersfield, and Delano, California in 2014. While the Wasco Clown turned out to be a photo project for the clown's wife, there's still an uncomfortableness that courses through us when we glimpse this scenario. Imagine stumbling across the pale-faced monstrosity as it enjoys the finer things in life, like a mechanical horse built for children next to what may be the last remaining payphone in the United States.
