TOP 10 MOST CREEPY PHOTOS FOUND ONLINE
If you've been with us for a while, you know we're big fans of all things creepy. Whether they're staged photographs capturing an intentional eeriness or just a product of good timing and circumstance, we're delivering you another strange installment of 10 unbelievably creepy photographs!
The Jonestown Aftermath
Following the orders of their leader, Jim Jones, members of the Peoples Temple at Jonestown, Guyana, South America ingested a poisonous concoction in an act of "revolutionary suicide." On November 19th, 1978, the day Jones implemented this grand plan, 918 people suffered. This aerial view is an eerie look at the mass of individuals that died for a cause that never came to fruition. The way bodies are piled atop one another and strewn about the lawn as if they were ornaments is, to say the least, chilling.
There is nothing about this image that makes us feel the slightest bit of comfort. The snapshot of what looks to be a cult ritual is a miserable mix of creepy, disturbing, shocking, and sad as the hooded figures kneel before the bloodied bodies of what is assumed to be their sacrifice. To wonder if these individuals were willing participants or if they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time makes this image even more difficult to look at and we can only hope, as shivers rush down our spines, that it was a quick passing or that the picture is staged.
This image can either be incredibly horrific or truly tragic, depending on what you know about the backstory. But we'll let you run with the terrifying scenario coming together in your head for a moment before revealing the truth behind this snapshot of a large population of gas-mask wearing individuals. The Japanese island of Miyake-jima suffered a volcanic eruption in 2000 which has led to a constant flow of sulfur dioxide. To survive in the toxic environment, the population has to carry around gas masks should the level of toxins reach unsafe levels. Without knowing that, though, it is a creepy image.
Well, here's something you don't want to stumble upon while you're traversing the underbelly of… well… anywhere. This extremely telling bit of graffiti was allegedly found by a photographer, who thankfully didn't meet the unstable individual that wrote it. Of course, we're not really thinking somebody confessed on a cement wall about dismembering another person… but isn't it best to assume this is one of the creepiest things you'll ever come across and that the person that wrote it is still lurking in the shadows?
Island of Dolls
You think you’ve seen it all until you happen across this unsettling snapshot of the Isla de Las Munecas, or the Island of Dolls, in Mexico City. Not knowing the backstory that led to the lynching of dozens of dolls definitely makes this image look as if it’s been pulled from a nightmare. In fact, knowing the reasoning why isn’t much better: allegedly, Don Julian Santana moved to an island on Teshuilo Lake where he is said to have witnessed a girl drowning. The dolls are meant to either honor the lost soul or appease what some think is a vengeful child spirit. Whatever the excuse behind hanging dolls, we’re not comfortable with it!
The Odessa Catacombs
The Odessa Catacombs of Ukraine are a winding, snaking circuit of caves and passageways that make up the largest catacombs in the world. Since they're incredibly difficult and dangerous to navigate, the Ukrainian government sealed off all entrances to the tunnels, but that hasn't stopped thrill-seekers and urban explorers from trying their luck in the winding tunnels. Enter this eerie photograph, which allegedly shows three youthful adventurers stumbling upon the remains of a young girl that got lost in the catacombs two years prior and likely eventually starved to death. Whether the picture is genuine may be a viable question, but it's still eerie to think about chancing upon the remains of an unfortunate soul.
Uncle Ronald's Home
We all have that kooky uncle that pulls quarters from behind our ears, tells us embarrassing stories about our parents, and moonlights as a murderous clown, don't we? Me either, but I'm glad someone out there does - because we are left with this twisted 1960's family photograph to give us the chills.
The Religious Order
What's creepier than a photograph of one person with glowing eyes? Dozens upon dozens of religious figures with glowing eyes, that's what! From Cardinals to Fathers, this image shows the true side of this religious order, when everybody conforms to the evil that binds them and lets whatever ungodly creature enter their souls. Either that, or it's an unfortunate lighting error that ruined an otherwise innocent picture.
This is a pretty popular image that's found its way around the internet numerous times and it seemed like we needed to finally include it in one of our creepier videos. Have you ever been so annoyed flipping through a Redbox library that you suddenly become possessed by an otherworldly being? The seemingly impossible angle of this girl's neck initially gives us the chills… and then logic sets in. It's clearly just an alien that needed to lift its realistic human mask to see what was available to rent.
The First Photobomber
Old-timey photos generally tend to be pretty creepy on their own, but throw in a towering old man overlooking a trio of youngin’s in what was likely meant to be a pretty innocent photo, and you have yourself an eerie entry into the internet's long line of creepy pictures. There is something truly unnatural about the man in the background, as if he were edited in with more modern techniques or is a being not of our realm. Truth be told, he kind of looks like Freddy Krueger… Creepy!
